Santorini

Freedom from Vasili on Vimeo.

Where we'll be next week.
It appears to be a place that does not suck.
We shall see.

So, I was watching the video clip and something about the place looked vaguely familiar. Then it hit me - there was a movie made there in the 80's called Summer Lovers, one of Daryl Hannah's earlier star roles.
The movie was pretty forgettable (with the minor exception of a lot of flesh), but the scenery was absolutely beautiful!
Enjoy!

Paisan, I find it interesting that a Greek island chain has an Italian-sounding name.

Wonder if I can get some decent Italian food there, hmmmmmmmm?

Well. I can probably find some pita bread and some feta cheese and some olives and a lemon or two. I'll figure something out...

It's the Aegean. It wouldn't surprise me if the island was named by the Roman's a loooong time ago.
I can't say about Italian food, but I know you will try the local fare. Check this out:

There's a website - http://www.greektravel.com/greekislands/santorini/
That mentions "There are a number of large wineries on the island that have tours all day long that include wine-tasting and food."
Sounds like a plan there.
:)

Anyway - you two have a great time. Looking forward to your impressions.

Mod, if that excellent specimen of overseas masculinity had done his historical homework and, if he had done so, would have remembered it (I'm afraid he'll never make a European :-), he'd have been able to tell you that the Venetians in their heyday named the island after St.Irene. At least the J had originally pointed out that it sounded Italian, so I checked the facts.

Just about every people of history book fame has left a footprint here, I learned. (We've arrived in one piece in the meantime, J will keep you posted but right now we are exhausted from a very adventurous day).
