Solo Walkabout

The sky was gray and the wind was blowing hard most of the day. Looked like it might rain, but never did.

It was jacket and hat weather. Like autumn. Crazy as hell. Most of Europe ain't getting a summer, and much of the US is getting a very harsh summer.

B stayed home and I roamed around from about 11:30 - 6. Rode around on a streetcar, a bus, and the subway. Did a lot of walking. Sat in a coffeehouse and had a 1/2 apple juice, 1/2 soda water and studied my German for about an hour.

About 3 the sun started coming out and it was warm enough I could remove my jacket.

Here's some of what I saw:

Some kind of, uh, studio.

I have no idea why this dive-ready mannequin is standing on the sidewalk.

Down the escalator to one of the subway lines.

A phone booth, but as I passed by I could see this guy was talking on his mobile,
while resting on the little table where the phone book goes.

Once again I found myself walking along the Danube Canal.

Yet more graffiti along the Danube Canal.

When I got home, B was out shopping. I got an email from my buddy The Magician, who's been kind enough to watch my house and my psycho, rodent-catching cat for me while I'm gone. He told me he and George The Greek were meeting at Beatnix in OKC about 11 (their time) and, because it happened to be about 11 (their time) I surprised the boys with a little phone call, catching George The Greek on his mobile. They'd been having a good time until then...

...I'm enjoying myself here but I do kind of miss my buddies.

I made supper (B and I take turns, one making the food and the other cleaning the kitchen afterwards.) Tonight: my world-famous ratatouille (never the same recipe twice) and some pork cutlets, rubbed with oregano from B's garden.

A glass of the local white wine. Not. Too. Shabby.
